From Nago-Altissimo Refuge-Brentonico-Nago
This is one of the most classic itineraries in southern Trentino that offers, in addition to the beauty of the environment, also unparalleled views of the upper Garda especially from the large natural balcony of Monte Altissimo. However, it is a challenging route both for the difference in altitude of the climb and for the length, during which you can also do a stretch by pushing on uneven ground on path 601, just below the summit. The effort required will however be amply rewarded by the wonder of the great 360° panoramas.
From the town of Nago, follow the signs for Monte Altissimo del Baldo, climbing up the asphalt road, steep at times, to Prati di Nago at 1,400 m; continuing on, you reach the car park at 1,530 m where the road ends and the SAT 601 trail begins, which you follow on a sometimes uneven surface until the last climb, where at times it may even be necessary to push your bike. Shortly after, you reach the Damiano Chiesa refuge at 2,060 m, located a few metres from the summit of Monte Altissimo at 2,079 m, which is the highest point of the route. The place is undoubtedly worth a restorative stop, to take advantage of both the tasty typical cuisine of the refuge and the spectacular infinite views.
The descent is along the winding dirt road marked SAT 633, which you follow on a sometimes uneven surface and rocky outcrops, reaching the Graziani Refuge at 1620 m at the end of the descent. Here you take the provincial road SP 3, quickly descending to the villages of San Valentino, San Giacomo, Brentonico and then to Mori, where you return to Nago via the cycle path.
